This all came about because of publishing.
In a previous (parallel) life Mr Longtale was a
publisher. His job was simple
- Spot talent
- Sign the talent
- secure a record deal
- wait for the record company to market the band
- collect the mechanicals
- wait for the synch requests to come in
Easy job!
But in the past few years many things have changed. Record sales have plummeted, there are more artists, fewer major record companies, lots of indies with no clout and lots of illegal or free downloads. All in all the publishers main marketing tool, the record company was no longer doing the job publishers took for granted.
There are many reasons for this and they are addressed in the So How Does it All Work section.
Mr Longtale realised that if he wanted to make his composers copyrights work he would have to have a method of releasing the masters himself. Hence the birth of Long Tale Recordings.
Mr Longtale has the connections with the film and TV industry and being able to license both the Master and the Publishing means he can run a One Stop Shop and this increases your chances of earning money.
Longtale has negotiated a publishing deal with Real World Works. This is a simple deal - It is an Administration deal and they will administer your publishing catalogue - There is no advance and no copyright ownership. You will not be compelled to put any of your copyrights into the admin deal. You put in what you want to. Treat it like a bank account - you only deposit what you want into the admin deal.
BUT: If you have delivered a copyright under the admin deal then we can include the track in our one stop licensing shop. This means that we make licensing very simple for the music supervisors which means that they like to visit us and use our copyrights.
If you like the idea of the deal then please write to Real World Works and ask them whether they are happy to accept your catalogue on those terms. send the request below to Publishing@longtalerecordings.com

The Publishing deal.
REMEMBER - They will only take on your catalogue if they feel that they can represent your music and that it is of a good enough standard. They have no obligation to publish or represent you or your catalogue. This is only a request from you to Real World Works. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE ALREADY TALKING TO LONG TALE.
